More voters than expected are coming to get registered in Burayu Town on the outskirts of Addis Ababa to cast votes in the forthcoming national elections scheduled for next May, the town electoral office said. Office Head, Bayisa Regasa disclosed over the weekend that 31,067 voters were expected to be registered, but 31,116 voters have been registered so far 13 days ahead of the deadline of the registration

According to Bayisa, more people are still coming to get registered in the polling stations in the town. He further said the fact that more people are coming to be registered ahead of the deadline for registration makes the election unique.

Bayisa said the number of voters coming to the polling stations per day is increasing by 100. According to the electoral law, only 1000 voters should be registered in one polling station. The polling stations are registering more than the fixed number now by notifying the respective constituencies. Bayisa attributed the increase in the numbers of voters to rise in the awareness of the people and the development of the democratic culture among the society at large.
