| Close to 90 percent of voters in Gurage Zone, Yem Special Woreda receive Voters' ID Cards |

Close to 90 percent of the electorates living in Gurage Zone and Yem Special Woreda of the Southern Ethiopia Peoples’ State have registered to cast votes in the coming national elections, the zonal election coordinating office said. Office coordinator, Fekade Menjeta disclosed on Monday that 504,000 of close to 560,000 eligible electorates received Voters’ ID Cards at 836 polling stations established in the zone and the special woreda of the state. Some 247,168 of the registered voters are women. Meanwhile, he said, five contesting political parties operating in the zone and the woreda fielded 94 candidates running for the seats of federal and regional councils. He said the contesting political parties fielded their respective candidates in 13 constituencies of the zone including in the Yem Special Woreda. Some 31 of the competing candidates are running for seats of the federal council while the remaining are contesting for seats in the regional council. |
