Chairman of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia Professor Merga Bekana announced that a training which focused on electoral boundary delimitation study shall be given from December 13-17/2010 at Adama. A two round training benefited trainers to have a global experience on electoral boundary delimitation process. The training shall be given by foreign experts who have electoral boundary delimitation knowledge on administrative and technical areas.
The chief added that the first round of the training focused on the management and policy making work and skill whereas, the second round focus on technical skills on the boundary delimitation process.
Board members, heads of the office, representatives from the House of People's Representatives, the House of federation, from Ethiopian Mapping Agency, Central Statistics Agency, from UNDP and DIP, Coordination Officers, all regional branch heads of the board, concerned lawyers, all regional states and the two city administrations heads and experts will participate on the training.
The training will have a paramount importance to the Board and it contributed a lot in designing electoral boundary delimitation process on a new forum in the near future. It is necessary to reorganize electoral constituencies based on the law and population census approved by the House of Federation.
The current constituencies of the House of People's Representatives was delimited in 1994.
The chief also added that the Board will do a lot in the future to achieve the successful administration of elections held in a country in peaceful and democratic manner as it did in the 2010 General Election.
In addition to this, the Board started a post- election evaluation. The evaluation covers the entire Nation including 140 Constituencies, 77 Zones and 916 Polling Stations. The collection of the data is almost finished and soon the interpretation and analysis of the data will begin according to the Chairman.The Board also conducted discussion with member of political parties, Judiciary, the media, civic associations with regard to post election assessment and related issues. |
