The Board Holds Discussions with the Regional Media |

The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia held a two day discussions with the delegates of a Regional Medias, Ethiopian Television and Radio Agency and Fana Broadcast Corporate from July 29 to 30, 2011 in Adama. The discussion was intended to exchange idea and information with the journalists on how to broadcast civic and voter education through Regional Media.
Opening the discussion the Board Chair Man Professor Merga Bekana said that, the main objective of this discussion is to identify the best way of broadcasting the civic and voter education teaching manual using the Regional Media. And to give the education continuously in pre-election, during election and in Post election period. Whereby to create an aware society.
He added that, the preparation of the civic and voter education manual has been started in the year 2008. And the draft of the manual was used for 2010 General Election to teach the voter. He said that, taking the teaching experience from 2010 Election and by sharing foreign experience many corrections has been made to improve the manual. This final civic and voter education teaching manual was prepared with the cooperation and participation of the Board Members, NEBE's staffs and with many invited government and private Universities and Colleges Scholars who have great qualified on the subject matter, the Professor Said.
On the discussion Professor Merga briefed that, the Board has planned to translate the manual in all Regional Languages in order to spread broadly the civic and voter education throughout the country, and a starting has been made to translate the manual in four Regional Languages.
The teaching methods should consider the Culture, Language and the level of the societies understanding, the delegates from the Regional Media, the Ethiopian Radio and Television and Fana Broadcast Corporate said.
Finally, the Professor said the Board will recently announce the starting time to give the civic and voter education via the Regional Media. |
