National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) 5th General Election — 2010 E.C.

Political Parties

79 registered national and regional political parties in Ethiopia's 2010 General Election, including fronts, coalitions, and independent unions.

In accordance with the registration of Political Parties Proclamation No 573/2008, seventy nine National and Regional Political Parties have been registered by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia. These political parties are participating as individual parties or as part of a Front, a Coalition or a Union.

As per registration provision those political parties forming a Front or a Coalition still maintain their individual party status and the Front or Coalition is formed with a common goal. On the other hand, Political parties who have formed a Union will cease to function as individual parties and will function as one entity under the Union they have formed.

All registered political parties are actively participating in the upcoming election, to be held on May 23, 2010 throughout the country. Forty nine political parties have taken their candidature symbols as individual parties or as part of a Front, Coalition or Union. All political parties are using their freedom of association in accordance with the Constitution for participating in peaceful and lawful election to assume political power.
